OTTAWA — During its recent annual general meeting, the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – 17�Թ��� (ACEC) announced Douglas Coles, principal of Coles Associates of Charlottetown, P.E.I., as the new chair for the association’s 2025–2026 term.

Coles, an engineer with 45 years of international experience and a wealth of business, marketing and technical expertise, takes on the leadership of ACEC’s board from Jérôme Pelletier of BBA, explains a release.

Since 1980, Coles has worked on projects in 17�Թ��� and abroad, including India, China, Poland and Argentina. His work spans project management, process engineering, energy management, commissioning and verification, traditional building electrical and mechanical services, as well as security/data systems and communications.

As chair, he will lead ACEC’s advocacy for infrastructure policy, a strong business climate for member firms, and the development of the next generation of industry talent.

“I am very honoured to take on the role of ACEC chair and promote the work of our members as essential to the backbone of our country – our infrastructure,” said Coles in a statement. “Building on the excellent progress made during my predecessor Jérôme Pelletier’s term, I am eager to seize the opportunities presented by the new government’s Bill C-5. At the same time, we must not lose sight of community infrastructure needs – especially in small communities with limited resources, where every project is a major project.”

ACEC president and CEO John Gamble added Coles’ varied background will serve ACEC members and its initiatives well.

“Douglas’ extensive engineering experience, drive, and business acumen will be of great value as we navigate this promising time for infrastructure,” he said. “As someone who comes from a small community, Douglas knows how important every infrastructure project is to the locality, but his international experience also gives him a global perspective that will benefit ACEC and its members.”
